Monotype is a unique planar printing technique that was part of my graphic arts training. This technique allows me to create “imaginary landscapes,” seeking “new horizons.” The process involves applying ink or acrylic paint to a plate that is then printed on sturdy paper with an etching press. This results in unique, imaginative landscapes that combine chance and creativity, allowing viewers to use their own imagination.
Coincidence plays an important role in this technique because the unexpected patterns and textures make each work special. A feature of monotype is that only one print of each composition can be made, making each piece unique and inimitable.
Creating imaginary landscape with monotype is an adventure that invites both creator and viewer to explore new horizons making it a fascinating art form within the graphic arts.
Finding the right composition – the perfect image – where the objects come to the fore as eye-catchers is the start of each painting.
The still lifes are a combination of a realistic rendering with a playful surrealist twist that give an extra deep meaning to the work.
